When I first decided that I’d like to try property investing, I started researching by reading as many books as I could and attending every course that came my way! I became a junkie for information. And it wasn’t so easy in those days. There wasn’t much on the internet then, and most seminars were aimed at selling you a book or a $50,000 course, or even a house. It was really hard to get clear, relevant information.

I decided not to wait, and property investing journey anyway. I didn’t have a lot of relevant information  so I made lots of mistakes, and I also had lots of successes. I continued to get educated, through courses and through my own experience. It was a lot of work, I made some sacrifices along the way, and now I’m able to look back and ask myself if I’d do it differently.

If I waited I definitely would have found more relevant information, but maybe I wouldn’t have the portfolio I have now. If I waited I might have found a mentor to run things by, but maybe then I wouldn’t have my property portfolio. If I waited I definitely would have been more confident, but maybe I wouldn’t have the opportunities I have now.

Because I got myself as educated as I could, and because I applied that information to the Australian market, and then to use that information to take action on what I knew, is what has caused me to enjoy the successful investment property portfolio that I have today.

Jane Slack-Smith is passionate about property investment. She has accumulated a sizeable investment property portfolio of her own both here and overseas, and now helps others on the journey to wealth creation through solid investment choices. Jane is a mortgage broker who specialises in providing those in the extractive industries with the best available finance to suit their personal needs and circumstances.

Since graduating from the University of NSW as a Mining Engineer in 1992, Jane has built a career in mining spanning a variety of roles and several locations throughout Australia and overseas. In 2000 Jane was awarded the Churchill Fellowship to study internationally and she travelled to Hong Kong, the US, and the UK to research 'non traditional mine site rehabilitation' using explosives.

Over her years in the extractive industry, Jane discovered there was ample opportunity to earn very good money. With the current building and resources boom this trend is set to continue and many in the mining and quarrying industries will find themselves with excess earnings available for investment.

With more than 13 years in the field, Jane has a great understanding of the temptation to spend these excess earnings on 'non-deductible debt'...like a new car, or an overseas holiday, rather than investing them in generating wealth and security for the future.

As she steadily accumulated her own property portfolio, Jane began to realise there was an opportunity for someone of her skills and experience to help others in the industry build their own long term wealth strategies through property investment. So in early 2005 she became a qualified mortgage broker. She has now retired from the extractive industry and established Investors Choice, a specialist mortgage broking service for property investors. This allows her to concentrate on her passion for property investment and help others to utilise their money effectively for long term wealth creation and financial independence.
